From the Principal

Dear Families and Friends of Downtown Elementary,

Welcome back to Downtown for what I’m sure will be another fantastic year. I am constantly amazed with the achievements of our students, which is directly connected to the commitment from our staff, parents, and community.

Congratulations to our students and staff for our academic achievement on the Spring 2009 STAR California Standards Test. Based on the report of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Academic Performance Index (API) released by the California Department of Education, Downtown Elementary has not only met, but also exceeded all performance targets for AYP and API. The time and attention given to our students by the teachers and staff is reflected in the accomplishment of our API of 877.

A key factor to student success is regular daily attendance at school. We are grateful that our parents recognize the value of their child(ren) attending school on time so they will benefit from the direct instruction and activities their teachers have planned. The District’s attendance goal for the 2008-09 school year was 95.4% and Downtown exceeded that goal with an average of 96.45%. Thank you for your help!

I am thankful each day that I am allowed to be a part of the wonderful family at Downtown Elementary and look forward to working together to ensure each student’s success.
